Helpfull Hint!

To determine the quantity of material you’ll need for your project you’ll have to do the following:

Measure how wide and long the area is (this will be your square footage) and decide how thick you want your material. Multiply the width by the length and divide that total by 27. This will be your quantity in cu. yds. at a foot deep. If you want your material to be 3” deep, multiply that total by .25; if you want your material to be 4” deep, multiply by .33 and so on. The total after multiplication will be the cubic yards you’ll need for your project.

FOR EXAMPLE: if your area measures 4’ wide by 125’ long (4’ x 125’= 500 square feet) and you want to spread material 3” thick (500 sq ft divided by 27 = 18.5 x .25 = 4.6 cu. yds.). Remember the final total, in this case 4.6 cu. yds., is based on material spread evenly, which is almost always not exact. Adding 15% to the total quantity will allow you enough material to complete your project.
